Hi, there. This is my
fist library-related blog, and to be honest my other blogs are disused and
pretty boring. It's been years since
I've used this site, so I had to refresh myself on how to set this all up.
When I first created this new blog, the site let me choose
the name and address of the blog, as well as the template. My first thought was, I'd like to come up with a snazzy blog title. But I just couldn't come up with something
that wasn't too cheesy. Maybe as I go
along, I'll think of a better title. It
would be nice to get one related to one of my favorite books. But for now, I'll just go with the generic
title, which is at least descriptive of the content.
My other concern was that I wanted a site that didn't look
like everyone else's, but at first I thought that the choice of template
designs was pretty sparse (only five or six options). However, after creating the page, I saw that
there were some additional looks to choose from by clicking
"templates" on the menu on the left side of the screen. I chose this orange swirl from the
"Awesome Inc." category because I thought it was fresh looking, and
not too girly.
Lastly, I noticed that my profile picture definitely needed
to be changed. It was an out-of-date meme that I chose when I made my first
blog on blogger years ago, and wouldn't really be appropriate now. I'd never
made my own meme before, but it was
pretty easy to use memecreator.org to make this one with the library cart. My only disappointment is that the caption is
too small to read clearly. ("That's
how I roll.") Again, I think it's
fine for now, but I might change it later.
In terms of how I would use this blog as a librarian, I can think of 2 possibilities right now-- one is to share information with students and staff (library events, new releases, tech-tool showcase), the other is to continue to use it as a professional development tool, and try to gain a following with other librarians. This second option might help make connections with other professionals that I can learn from, as well.
